Adam Hain Introduction

My name is Adam Hain and I am new to the program, as well as to the University.  I grew up in a small town in Central California, between Santa Cruz and San Jose, on a walnut farm.  I attended K-12 there, starting in a very small school and transitioning to a large high school.  I started junior college at Gavilan College in Gilroy and then moved on to Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz.  Junior college was a great experience which is why I took my time completing it.  I did my undergrad at San Francisco State in Broadcasting, with an emphasis in post-production.  After San Francisco I moved to LA.  I recently moved to Upland and live there with my wife and our 10 month old son, Henry.

I think technology has had a profound effect on so many facets of our lives, and I am comfortable with that.  People have such great access to information and to tools to create and communicate with.  Much of this would have been unimaginable even even recently.  I am excited at the speed at which this progress is happening and also excited to see what will develop in the future.

I pursued a career in post-production because of an interest in the possibilities for creativity made possible by technology.  In that case it was the advent of affordable editing software.  After several years in the TV/ Film industry, I recently decided to change course a bit as I feel the labor  market is pretty saturated. I found this program after searching through Masters programs related to Film and Communications and also considered exploring the field of Education.  I have worked on Documentaries and short educational videos in the past and found it to be a very rewarding experience.

After finding this program, I was immediately interested but a bit squeamish about the web element - having no experience in it.  However, I am fascinated by the structure of the Internet and websites.  The small amount of exploring I have done since deciding to enroll in this program has compounded that interest.
